York food bank delivers for Thanksgiving

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

It's just not Thanksgiving without turkey.

Thanks to the York County Food Bank, 250 turkeys were given to families in need so they can have a traditional meal on Thanksgiving.

"Everybody in this line appreciates what the food bank has done for them," said Terri Redd of York.

Hundreds of people lined up in the cold outside the food bank Wednesday.

"A lot of people don't have turkeys or they just don't have a lot of stuff for Thanksgiving," said Redd.

"Today is a very special day that the food bank was able to supply that for these people," said Sandra Colon of York.

One by one, turkeys were handed out to local families in need.

"I am grateful," said Colon.

The food bank's busiest and most stressful day was another success.

"As soon as families walk through these doors and see that they will receive turkeys and they can have a real Thanksgiving dinner, it's just going to make all of the stress worth it for us," said Amanda Shank of the York County Food Bank.

The giving sentiment was not lost on those who need it most.

"I am very grateful. I don't know what I would do without them," Redd said.

Hundreds of turkeys left the food bank and even pumpkin pie. Perhaps most importantly, a lot of smiles were both given and received Wednesday at the food bank.
