Danville, VA - Those who don't want to spend all day in the kitchen, there are more ready-made meal options than ever before.
In the Southside, local favorite Checkered Pig has been taking orders for weeks at their Danville and Martinsville locations.
Checkered Pig has become well-known for award winning barbecue, but their most popular deal right now may be a 12 pound turkey with all the trimmings.
More than 100 turkey orders are going out, along with plenty of spiral hams, sides, and desserts.
Some say it just beats doing all the work yourself.
"We normally used to do it at home, but we last year gave it a try here and just thoroughly enjoyed it, the ham was delicious," said customer Joel Baldwin.
Repeat customers like Joel Baldwin say the prices, which range from $29 for just a turkey to $60 for a more elaborate meal, are a good way to save time and money.
"We're probably going to do the same thing again for Christmas," Baldwin said.
General Manager Randy Bowles says the turkeys are smoked, and the ordering process is a breeze.
"It's a very popular item. Once people buy them, they usually come back every year and get them from us," Bowles said.
Once customers place their advance orders, they simply pick up their meal, heat, and eat.
The holidays are just getting started and there is still a lot of work to be done as they cater holiday parties across the area and prepare for Christmas.
Bowles says it's all about going the extra mile for their customers.
"Whether it be just picking up something for a few people or catering for a couple hundred people or just coming in and eating at the store, we try to do anything we can to help out the customers," Bowles said.
Unfortunately, all of the Thanksgiving turkeys are sold out, but it's not too early to be thinking about Christmas.
Checkered Pig will be taking orders until December 18.
