Suspect identified in homicide, assault in Williamstown

A 53-year-old is in custody following a confrontation that ended in a homicide and assault.

According to officials, a 27-year-old man who lives in a trailer behind his in-laws' home in the 100 block of Lenker Drive brought a 36-year-old Williamstown woman back to his residence at around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

The woman's 53-year-old husband, Roberto Souffront, showed up at the trailer and confronted the pair. During the confrontation, the husband shot the 27-year-old man with a handgun in the trailer, killing him.

Souffront then assaulted his wife to the extent that she needed to be hospitalized. She was treated and later released.

Troopers arrived and took Souffront into custody at the scene. He is charged with murder, attempted murder, burglary, aggravated assault, reckless endangering, and possessing an instrument of crime.
