York Salvation Army kettle campaign in the red

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Major Dennis Camuti, corps officer for the York Salvation Army, said that with nearly 10 kettle days left before Christmas, the annual campaign is $25,000 behind 2012's income.

Camuti said the rain, snow and ice this past week have put a damper on donations by passersby. The group also says this year's calendar hasn't helped either.

"There are five fewer calendar days between Thanksgiving and Christmas," Business Manager George Lenker said.

Proceeds from the kettle campaign provide Christmas food and turkeys to some 2,000 families and support the Family Emergency Services of The Salvation Army throughout the year.

Kettles are staffed by bell ringers from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day except Sunday.

They hope to raise $240,000.
