Owner offers reward in smash-and-grab burglary at bar

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

The owner of a Lancaster bar is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a smash-and-grab burglar.

The burglar used a heavy planter to smash the glass from the front door at Molly's Pub, at 253 E. Chestnut Street, before stealing Newport cigarettes early Thursday.

Between repairs to the door and the stolen cigarettes, damage from the crime topped $3,700.

The owner says if the thief pays up, he won't press charges. But if he doesn't come forward, the bar is prepared to pay out money to the person who can identify him, and has posted surveillance video and photos on its Facebook so that someone may recognize him.

The surveillance video shows the man smoking a cigarette outside the pub at around 2:23 a.m. Five minutes later, he picks up a heavy planter, lifts it onto his shoulder, and runs forward as he throws it at the door.

After a car drives by, the thief is seen on the video as he climbs through the broken door, hops onto the counter, and helps himself to the cigarettes.
