Birmingham food truck ordinance up for vote..again

Posted: Updated:

ABC 33/40 has obtained the amended food truck ordinance. Details at 6 p.m.

Birmingham City Councilors are set to vote once again Tuesday for a proposed mobile vendor ordinance in the Magic City.

The Council has delayed a vote on the measure at least three times. At a meeting a couple of weeks ago, a representative from the city's Law Department said the group would gather more information. Councilors, at the time, said more information could help them make a decision.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, at least three councilors tell ABC 33/40 they have not yet received any information. ABC 33/40 is awaiting a response from the law department on what the information will include as well as whether it would be made available to city leaders before a vote.

The proposed ordinance has garnered criticism from food truck vendors including, the Greater Birmingham Food Truck Coalition. They argue the rules are too restrictive.
