UPDATE:

The National Transportation Safety Board has joined the investigation into the explosion in Gate City Tuesday morning that left one woman dead and several others injured, the NTSB confirmed to ABC 33/40.

One NTSB investigator is already in Birmingham and two more are expected to arrive Wednesday.

UPDATE:

 The Jefferson County Coroner identified the woman who died in the Gate City explosion as Tyrennise Laval Mabry, 40, from Birmingham.  She was trapped in the rubble and died on the scene.  Rescue crews were able to pull a man from rubble.  He was transported to UAB hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

1 adult female has died as a result of this explosion according to Birmingham Fire Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis.

4 children under 8 years of age have been treated and released from Children's Hospital. 4 adults have also been transported to hospitals.

The 2 missing people have been found. The man has been taken to a local hospital, and is described as being in critical condition. The condition of the woman is unknown at this time.

Two people are unaccounted for after the explosion.  Three people have been transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Fire Chief C.W. Mardis says two, five-bedroom apartments were destroyed in the explosion, which happened around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue workers are on the scene of an explosion in Gate City.

It happened sometime overnight after a fire was reported off Joppa Avenue. Shortly after, responders discovered there was a gas leak. It is unknown if anyone was injured in the explosion.

ABC 33/40 crews are on the scene to bring you the latest information.
