Police Happy To Make Arrest In 2008 Double Homicide

Posted:

Danville, VA - A Danville man has been arrested for a double homicide that happened back in 2008. Police actually arrested him in Pennsylvania.

Arthur Carter was taken into custody in his apartment there and charged with two counts of capital murder.

Danville Police say the victims' family members have kept in regular contact with them for years trying to find out who could have done this.

The investigators never gave up. In fact, they have been working with the Olyphant Chief of Police in Pennsylvania in the weeks leading up to Monday's arrest.

Investigators say Carter shot two men, Tony Roger Howerton, 55, and Charles Edward Harris, 53, in February 2008.

Police found the two men in a wrecked car on Jenny Lane.

At first, the call came in as a car accident but police say their investigation revealed the men were shot while the car was still in gear.  Then, it ran off the road and into a ditch. One man died at the scene, the other passed away from his injuries at the hospital.

"The victim's families have been in touch with me personally quite frequently through the years and I'm very pleased to tell them that we have been able to close this case and bring their loved one's killer to justice," said Cpt. Dennis Haley.

Carter was charged in a seven count indictment Monday morning in Danville.
