United Way and YLS Deliver Food and Gifts to Paul Munro Elementary

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Some Lynchburg children will be getting some help over Christmas break.

Each week, the Young Leaders Society partners with the United Way to send backpacks of food home with 28 needy children at Paul Munro Elementary School.

This week not only will the kids get a backpack of food, it will be enough to last them through the entire Christmas break. Many from the community joined in to help.

Georgia Pacific in Big Island donated 250 pounds of food, and more than $500 in age appropriate toys.

Books were also anonymously donated and American National University donated stockings with socks and personal care items. Students from American National were helping to fill the stockings and backpacks Thursday.

"It really shows the kids that there's other people that really care and really understand that they have a need and that they know that there's something out there that's gonna help put a smile on their face," said Dominique Hilliard who is a Medical Assisting Student at American National University.

Keena Wood of the United Way says they are thrilled the kids will be getting more than just food for Christmas.
