Birmingham police investigating fatal shooting on Alabama Ave. in West End (Update)

Update #2:

ABC 33/40 has learned the identity of the man shot and killed late Friday morning in west Birmingham.

Jeffery Burkes Jr., a 28-year-old father of one, died from injuries sustained in a shooting at a home on Alabama Avenue around 11 a.m.

The suspected shooter fled the scene and remains at-large. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to please contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

Update #1:

The victim of a fatal shooting in west Birmingham Friday is, according to family, a man in his mid-to-late 20s and the father of a 2-year-old, ABC 33/40 reporter Haley Westbrook has learned.

According to police, the man was shot on the front porch of a home in the 1600 block of Alabama Avenue around 11 a.m. and the suspected killer is still at large.

Investigators are still interviewing witnesses at the scene and are asking anyone with information about the case to please contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.

A homicide investigation is underway in Birmingham after one person was shot and killed late Friday morning.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 11 a.m. in the 1600 block of Alabama Avenue. Upon arriving, officers found one person suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Emergency crews were called to the scene, where they pronounced the victim dead.

It is unknown if any arrests have been made in the case as police continue to investigate.

    A federal judge is delaying his decision on an Alabama law that could close some abortion clinics.
