Posted:

Danville, VA-- Danville Parks and Recreation is trying to tackle childhood obesity.

They partnered with Virginia Tech to launch "The Partnering for Obesity Planning and Sustainability iChoose program."

It's a free three month health program targeting children ages 8 through 12 to improve eating and physical activity behaviors.

Several families will attend six health and physical activity classes. They will also have health screenings to monitor their progression.

The pilot program is funded by the National Institute of Health and will start in February.

Partners in this project include Virginia Department of Health, Danville Regional Medical Center, Danville Parks and Recreation, Boys and Girls Clubs of Danville and Virginia Tech.
