'Miracle baby' defying odds after born 15 weeks early

ANNVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Lebanon County couple says their son is a true miracle.

Jake Petrone was born 15 weeks early, but "he has been fighting like there's no tomorrow," according to his father John Petrone II.

Petrone and his wife, Karianne Reagan, were told that they couldn't have children.

That soon changed when Reagan discovered in May that she was pregnant. In September, doctors performed an emergency caesarean section when Reagan's water broke.

It was unclear if Jake was going to make it. Staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Penn State Hershey Medical Center used special ventilators to keep oxygen pumping through the infant's body, but only gave him a five percent chance at survival.

Jake has not left the hospital since his birth, and doctors are unclear on how long he'll remain in the NICU. But he is currently off ventilators, and able to breathe on his own.

Reagan told abc27 her son is a "Christmas miracle," who they are extremely thankful for.
