Free Meals Offered to the Needy in Danville

Danville, VA - Christmas came early for some folks in Danville Monday. The Salvation Army there had their Christmas lunch for the needy.

Thirty volunteers served about 150 people. The number is up from last year.

The group decided to celebrate Christmas Monday because every year on Christmas Day there are several community events to feed those in need. So by holding it early, they can serve even more people.

Each person they served received a hot meal, dessert, and a gift which included toiletries.

"For those in our community who are perhaps less fortunate than us, we are their family for today. And we are gathered together just to give thanks," said Cpt. Karl Dahlin with the Salvation Army.

The Danville Salvation Army will be open Thursday and Friday for lunch, and every day next week except for New Year's Day.
