Danville Native Receives National Recognition For Marines

Posted:

Danville, VA -- A Danville native is receiving national recognition for his service in the Marines.

Gunnery Sergeant Aubrey Wrenn has been named Combat Instructor of the Year for 2013. He had to compete several times for this award. First, he had to win for Combat Instructor of a particular quarter of the year. Then, he had to win regionally and finally nationally.

Wrenn suspects he beat out about 1,000 other Marines. He says this is very important to him because he says he is setting an example for other Marines.

"It's not about the personal payout at all. It's about what you are giving back to the institution, what you are giving back to the nation and the Marine Corp and your community," said Wrenn.

Wrenn will go to Quantico early next year to get the award.
