State Police say that a man attempting to rob a Franklin County home on Christmas morning was shot and killed by the homeowner.

According to a press release, 21-year-old Janorris Hughes, arrived at the Green Township home with a rifle just after 5am.  Hughes attempted to rob all of those who were inside the residence, the release states.

Police say that another man who was inside of the home began fighting with Hughes and during the fight that man sustained three gun shot wounds.

The man in the home and Hughes fled the scene, according to police. They did not specify if the fight was continuing off the property. The homeowner, Mickle Shaffer, then picked up Hughes' rifle, located Hughes, and shot him, police say.  Hughes was pronounced dead at 6:48am.

The man fighting with Hughes is being treated at York Hospital.

Franklin County District Attorney Matt Fogal tells Abc27 that a criminal complaint will be filed against Shaffer.
