Volunteers Help Serve Christmas Meals Around Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA- Folks in Lynchburg were working hard to make sure as many people as possible had a nice big Christmas meal Wednesday.

Lynchburg's Daily Bread served over 200 people a Christmas lunch of ham, green beans and macaroni and cheese. Volunteers arrived at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning to prepare the food. They say giving back to the community, especially on holidays like this, should be done more often.

"I know we should being doing 365 days a year but, it is really special to be able to wake up on Christmas morning and be able to give back. It really is a blessing," said Shannon Lindsay.

"Christ wasn't selfish. Show your love. You should love your neighbor as yourself," said Melvin Johnson.

And the Salvation Army of Lynchburg held a breakfast for the community Wednesday morning. The menu included pancakes, sausage, and eggs. Volunteers served around 100 people. They said this is a great way to show the true meaning of Christmas.

"There is so much love around Christmas time and my goal I set last year was not just celebrate Christmas on Christmas day, but to celebrate it every single day of the year. I actually did that last year and it has changed my life," said Carol Kirby, with the Salvation Army.
