Lynchburg, VA - While Virginia Tech is in El Paso, another local team is on the way to New Orleans.

The Brookville cheerleading squad has the honor of performing at halftime of the Sugar Bowl.

"We're just looking forward to the overall atmosphere and the girls having the opportunity to perform," said Coach Amanda Dean.

Excitement has helped fuel the Brookville cheerleaders for all the long hours of practice they have had to endure to learn a new routine.

"It's really exciting because it is going to be a once in a lifetime deal," said Junior Emilly Toth. "I've never had any chance like this before. It is really exciting. Anything I've ever done has been here, small scale. This is a huge scale, on TV, so I'm really excited.

The 15 middle and high school students will perform in front of 75,000 fans in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

"I'm probably going to want to faint to be completely honest. I'm going to be really nervous and probably breathing really heavily," Toth said.

The squad leaves for the Big Easy this weekend and even though they haven't had a lot of practice together, they say they'll be ready

"I'm really excited to dance in front of all those people and all the other cheerleaders. It will be like a fun learning experience," said Junior Hailey Dyke.

Kickoff for the Sugar Bowl is January 2nd at 8:30 p.m. between Alabama and Oklahoma.
