GRANTVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

A five-alarm fire destroyed the Grantville Restaurant in Dauphin County early Monday.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. at the eatery on Route 22 between Sand Beach and Crawford roads in East Hanover Township.

Flames could be seen shooting from the roof.

The restaurant has been there for about seven or eight years, according to fire officials.  A lack of water in the area was challenging for firefighters.  Nearly 100 people were called to the scene to fight the fire.

No one was inside the restaurant when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

Christine Evitts worked at the restaurant several years ago. She said it was a great place for people of all ages to gather.

"A lot of local people came in, plus there were travelers" Evitts said. "I liked to find out where people were from and what they were doing."

There's no word on the cause of the fire.

More than 80 firefighters were called to the scene and officials say they battled smoke and flames for nearly six hours.
