Funeral set for children killed in Christmas fire

A funeral is scheduled Thursday in Valley Head for three children who died in a fire while visiting in Louisiana. The service will be a noon Thursday at Lowell Barron Gymnasium for 12-year-old Roxana Mejia and her brothers, 11-year-old Josue and 10-year-old Rommy. Burial will follow in Rainsville Memorial Park.

The three children, who attended Valley Head School, died Christmas Day in a fire at the mobile home of their aunt and uncle in Houma, Louisiana. Their parents, Santos and Martha Mejia, were injured in the fire.

School Principal Bill Monroe said extra counselors will be available at Valley Head School when classes resume Monday.
