School van driver dies in crash on Route 116

SPRING GROVE, Pa. (WHTM) -

The driver of a school van died Thursday afternoon after crashing into a tractor-trailer on Route 116 in southern York County.

Deputy coroner Claude Stabley said witnesses described the van as driving erratically before it crossed the center line and struck the truck head-on at 3:45 p.m.

No students were on the van.

The name of the driver was not immediately released.

Route 116, locally known as York Road, is closed between Jacobs Mill Road and Iron Ridge Road in Heidelberg Township.

There is no estimate of when the roadway will reopen.

Detours are in place.

Crews at the scene were also dealing with a hazardous materials incident.
