MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Mechanicsburg man was arrested for two robberies after leading officers on a high-speed chase Sunday, according to police.

Robert Arnett, 37, is accused of displaying a knife when he stole a change purse from a woman at the Scottee Coin Laundry in the 600 block of E. Simpson Street on December 30, and he was involved in the robbery of a purse near the Kmart in Enola Sunday morning, Mechanicsburg police said in a news release.

Police from Mechanicsburg, East Pennsboro Township, Lower Allen Township, Silver Spring Township, Hampden Township and Camp Hill tried to stop Arnett in Hampden Township, but he led officers on the chase before crashing into another vehicle and striking the side of a home near W. Keller and York streets in Mechanicsburg, police said.

He then fled on foot and was found a short time later hiding in a dumpster, police said.

Arnett was arrested and charged with robbery, simple assault, theft, fleeing and eluding, and summary traffic violations.

He was sent to Cumberland County Prison on $50,000 cash bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 13.
