Natural gas outage reported in West Gadsden

Posted: Updated:
GADSDEN - AL -

Hundreds woke up this morning to a natural gas outage in downtown West Gadsden.

An Alagasco spokesperson says about 400 customers were affected.

We're told the outage happened overnight due to an unprecedented demand on a newly installed pipeline.

Alagasco crews went door to door to inform customers of the situation and alert them that their meters would be turned off temporarily. Crews will be going door-to-door to restore natural gas service for customers affected. Someone must be at home or business to give the service mechanic access to light the pilots and perform safety inspections. If no one is home, the service mechanic will leave a notice on the door with a number to call a mechanic back out.  Service is expected to be restored by tonight.

If customers are not able to stay in their homes, the following warming station are open:

Elliott Community Center, 2829 W.Meighan Blvd., Gadsden, open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Carver Community Center, 1030 Tuscaloosa Ave., Gadsden, open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
