The cold temperatures caused problems for crews fighting an overnight fire in Lancaster County.
It started around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a house on the first block of Bimini Drive in East Hempfield Township.
The fire chief said there were problems with freezing water and crews had to be called in to salt the roads.
"It's not bad when you are inside, but when you come out and you hit the ice and everything starts freezing up, your turnout gear gets stiff, your gloves get stiff...and at the same point in time it makes it a little bit harder...when you got to start looking for hypothermia and frostbite among our personnel," Jamie Rohrer of the East Hempfield Volunteer Fire Department said.
Everyone got out of the home safely and no one was injured.
The house was a total loss.
