Washington Redskins Hire Jay Gruden as New Head Coach

Washington, D.C. - The Washington Redskins have hired Jay Gruden as their new head coach, the team announced Wednesday.

Gruden most recently served as the offensive coordinator as the Cincinnati Bengals. He is the brother of former Super Bowl champion Jon Gruden, who coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a title in 2003.

The hiring was first reported by NFL.com

The team says it will hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to introduce Gruden.

Before coming to Washington, the 46-year-old Gruden spent three seasons at the helm of the Bengals offense where he developed quarterback Andy Dalton. His only other National Football League job was as an offensive assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002-2008.

Gruden also served as the head coach of the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League and the offensive coordinator and head coach of the UFL's Florida Tuskers. Gruden was a prolific passer for the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm, leading the team to four championships. He was elected to the Arena Football hall of fame in 1999.
