UPDATE: The Perry County coroner has released the name of the woman killed while stopped at a stop sign on Saturday. She's been identified as Jennifer Zerbe-Hecker, 56, of Duncannon. An autopsy is currently being performed.
State police are investigating the shooting death of a man on Second Street in Susquehanna Township that they believe is connected to a sexual assault and homicide in Perry County.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots on the 3700-block of Second Street on Saturday afternoon at around 3 p.m. and saw a man dead inside a car seconds later.
Troopers say this all began at around 11 Saturday morning when a 25-year-old woman reported she had been sexually assaulted by 23-year-old Donald Tolbert of Duncannon.
Troopers issued a BOLO to all law enforcement and while he was on the run, police believe he shot and killed a 56-year-old woman from Wheatfield Township while her car was stopped at a stop sign on the 500-block of Dellville Road.
Police said Tolbert then stole a red Ford Focus from a home on Jefferson Street in Duncannon and committed a burglary of a home in Howe Township, where he stole multiple firearms. As units were responding to that burglary, police said Tolbert then committed a robbery of a convenience store in Dauphin Boro.
Tolbert and his vehicle were later spotted by police in Susquehanna Township, where a pursuit ensued and ended where North Second Street dead-ends.
The car was cornered and shots were fired, including several from police. Officials are still investigating whether Tolbert's fatal wounds were self-inflicted.
