Police have one person in custody following a shooting in Lancaster that left a man in critical condition.
On Saturday morning at around 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the first block of Pearl Street for a reported burglary in progress.
While en route, officers were informed that there had been a fight at the scene and someone had been shot.
The suspect had fled by the time police got to the scene. After an officer spotted someone who matched the suspect's description, the man ran and hid from police.
He was subsequently found and taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Joshua Diaz-Maldonado, was taken to the Lancaster City police station where authorities found a pair of brass knuckles in his possession during a search.
Officers at the scene found a 29-year-old Lancaster man with a gunshot wound to the leg inside the apartment. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He underwent surgery and is currently listed in critical condition.
Investigators learned that the shooting was the result of a dispute that happened inside one of the apartments, involving several people. Police determined that the victim did not live there and was visiting friends when the incident occurred.
As a result of this investigation, Detective Lieutenant Michael Winters filed the following charges:
Maldonado, a resident of the first block Pearl Street, faces numerous charges including aggravated assault, simple assault and carrying a firearm without a license.
He will be transferred to Lancaster County Central Booking Center for arraignment.
