Roanoke Students Present Research to NASA

Roanoke, VA - A handful of students at Stonewall Jackson Middle School, in Roanoke, were honored for their research for NASA scientists.

The project was all part of NASA's STEM Challenge.

The pictures, taken a few minutes ago, show the kids making their presentation.

"Team Cupcake" was tasked with coming up with ideas to not only parachute a space vehicle onto Mars, but also ways to protect astronauts from radiation on the red planet.

"For the US Department of Education and NASA to come up with this STEM challenge was an awesome thing for us and we feel very blessed to have been chosen to participate," said Teacher Elizabeth Annis.

The students were one of just a handful of schools chosen.

The panelists included Lynchburg native Leland Melvin and the Director of NASA's Glenn Research Center, Jim Free.
