New video from moments before tanker crash in May

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Many of us have seen the images of the May 9 tanker fire over Interstate 81. But the moments before the explosion were unknown, until now.

Abc27 submitted a Right-To-Know request for the video on PennDOT cameras in the area and found the cameras had captured everything.

The video shows the truck getting off of I-81NB and then getting on the 22/322 ramp.

The truck, carrying 7,500 gallons of diesel fuel, gets on the ramp, flips on its side and flames fall below to I-81.

The video shows an explosion and then a fireball erupts and hits the ramps above.

I-81 was closed for days but the ramps had to be rebuilt and just opened a few weeks ago.

State Police cited the driver of the truck, Thomas Uecker after an investigation determined the accident was caused by excessive speed.
