Attorney Jerry Philpott says Donald Tolbert—suspected of committing multiple crimes on Saturday, including sexual assault and murder—sought legal advice on a custody issue last Friday, the same day he posted bail on domestic charges.
Philpott says he was not Tolbert's attorney of record, and he seemed okay before he went on what police described as a deadly crime spree over the weekend.
Police say Tolbert sexually assaulted a woman, and then he shot and killed Jennifer Zerbe-Hecker at an intersection in Duncannon. The shooting happened near the Philpott home. There is no word on why Tolbert was in the area.
Philpott says violent crime can happen anywhere, but it is scary when it happens close to your home.
Jerry says Jennifer would walk her collie in the neighborhood and stop and talk about her love of dogs. Sandra Philpott says Jennifer lost her husband about a year ago, and she was a good neighbor who had a caring heart and will be missed.
State police are still conducting their investigation.
