UPDATE: Police in York County say a reported child abduction attempt was a misunderstanding.
Police said the driver was from Virginia and got confused when trying to pick his granddaughter up from a babysitter. Officials verified all information with all parties.
Previously reported: The Southern Regional Police Department said the attempted abduction occurred at Valley and Junior streets at around 4:45 p.m.
A 9-year-old girl exited a school bus, and as the bus drove away a man pulled up to her and spoke to her through the passenger window. Officials said he told the girl to "hop in."
The girl's father was behind the driver and confronted him. The driver put his car in reverse and fled the scene.
Again, police have determined that this incident was a misunderstanding.
