Danville, VA - Volunteers in Danville rescued the remainder of Hylton Hall's archives Wednesday.
Demolition crews discovered a secret room inside the building that housed hundreds of payroll ledgers and other business information dating back to the 1800s. They contacted the Schoolfield Preservation Foundation, who took out as many of these ledgers as they could.
On Wednesday, about half a dozen volunteers climbed over rubble and loaded up trucks full of the forgotten treasures.
"You never know what kind of pearl is going to turn up among the things that you have. I'm sure there are duplications and things that will mean nothing but there might be something in there// that the public would like to read about," said Carol Handy, President of Schoolfield Preservation Foundation.
The Foundation plans to find a way to preserve the pieces of history and then display them for the public to check out.
