Alabama assistant Greg Brown reportedly set to leave staff

Posted: Updated:

Greg Brown will reportedly step down after one year on the Alabama football coaching staff.

ESPN was the first to report the story.

Brown replaced Jeremy Pruitt last offseason after he spent two seasons as defensive coordinator at Colorado.

The Alabama secondary struggled with injuries and inconsistency in 2013. The Tide allowed 348 yards passing and four touchdowns in this month's Sugar Bowl loss to Oklahoma.

There's speculation that Kevin Steele will get Brown's on-field coaching spot. Steele was the Tide's defensive coordinator for two seasons under coach Saban (2007-08) and returned last season as Alabama's Director of Player Personnel.

Steele passed on the opportunity to become defensive coordinator at Louisville last week.

Brown is Alabama's third coaching change in the last eight days. Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier took the same job at Michigan and defensive line coach Chris Rumph joined the coaching staff at Texas.

Lane Kiffin and Bo Davis were hired to replace Nussmeier and Rumph.
