One day after it was announced that Alabama's AJ McCarron had decided not to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl, one of the quarterback's former teammates on defense -- Adrian Hubbard -- has been extended an invitation to play in the game.

Hubbard, a 6-foot-6, 252-pound linebacker who recently decided leave school early for the 2014 NFL draft, became only the third underclassman in Senior Bowl history to earn an invite to Mobile. Last year, two underclassmen -- Alabama tackle D.J. Fluker and Syracuse tackle Justin Pugh -- became the first early-NFL entries to land roster spots after organizers decided to loosen their eligibility restrictions on prospective participants.

Hubbard will join former teammates Kevin Norwood, Ed Stinson, Cody Mandell and C.J. Mosley on the South roster for the Jan. 25 all-star game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

Hubbard finished last season with 33 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

In its 64th year, the Senior Bowl has become a hotbed for some of the nation's best college football players looking to improve their NFL draft stock as decision-makers from all 32 teams in the league, including scouts, general managers and coaches, regularly attend the event for pre-draft evaluations.

Alabama has long-been well represented in Mobile and since its creation in 1987, 11 former Crimson Tide players have been named to the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame, including Paul "Bear" Bryant, Joe Namath, Lee Roy Jordan, Bob Baumhower, Ozzie Newsome, Derrick Thomas, Richard Todd, Ray Perkins, Cornelius Bennett, Jeremiah Castille and Shaun Alexander.
