LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Charges have been filed in the brutal murder of a young Berks County woman.

State police announced charges Thursday against Adam Lynch, 21, of Reading and Ryan Schannauer, 19, of Wyomissing.

Both are charged with homicide, conspiracy, arson, and abuse of a corpse in the death of 23-year-old Ashley Kline.

Kline's body was found Sunday in the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster County, nearly two weeks after she was reported missing Dec. 31.

District Attorney Craig Stedman said Kline knew Lynch and Schannauer and believed they were going to see a movie when the three left her home the night of Dec. 30, but instead they drove to a remote location along Laurel Drive in Clay Township where there was some sort of sexual altercation.

Kline was stabbed multiple times and was still alive when she was doused with gasoline and set on fire, Stedman said.

More than a week later, on Jan. 8, the two returned to Kline's body and set fire to it again to prevent anyone from identifying her, the district attorney said.

Investigators said Lynch and Schannauer each blame the other for the killing, and they believe the two planned to kill Kline because the supplies were already in the car.

Both were sent to Lancaster County Prison without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled Jan 24.
