Puppy Left Outside Danville Dumpster

Posted:

Danville, VA – A five-week-old puppy is now at the Danville Humane Society after someone left it outside of a dumpster.

Someone found a pit bull-lab mix curled up in a blanket Wednesday and brought it to a local vet's office.

The vet checked him out and then released him to the Humane Society.

Anyone could face any number of misdemeanor charges for this sort of abandonment.

The Humane Society says whoever did it should have dropped the puppy off with them so he would be safe.

"Leaving a five-week-old puppy by a dumpster is like taking a five-week-old human baby to a dumpster and expecting them to survive, it just doesn't happen," said Paulette Dean, Director of the Danville Humane Society.

The Humane Society will get legal custody of the puppy next week, then it will put him up for adoption in two weeks.

They are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
