Talladega police look for shooter of nine-year-old boy

Posted: Updated:
TALLADEGA, Ala. -

A nine-year-old Talladega boy is recovering from a gunshot to the leg.

It happened around 9 p.m. Tuesday outside a house on Howard Street.

Police chief Jason Busby said the child was sitting in the front seat of a vehicle that was parked in the front yard of the residence, listening to the radio.

"There's evidence that there were multiple shots fired in the area.  The exact location of all the shots has yet to be determined," Chief Busby said.

One of the bullets went into the car and hit the boy in the leg.  Paramedics took the boy to Citizens Baptist Medical Center and determined his injuries were not life threatening.

"Of course any time you've got a child shot, that's every parent's worst nightmare," Busby said.

The boy was alone in the car and investigators don't believe he was the target.  There were several people inside the house at the time of the shooting.

Police are hopeful someone in the neighborhood saw something.

"Investigators are looking to several different angles at this time," Chief Busby said.

"We're asking anybody that has information in regards to this shooting to contact the Talladega Police detective division."
