South Boston Chef Gets National Recognition

South Boston, VA - A woman in South Boston has been named one of the top chefs in the country.

Margaret Moorefield is the co-owner of Bistro 1888 in downtown South Boston.

She has won many awards, but she said this one means a lot because the accolades are coming from Best Chefs America. It's annual publication that highlights the top chefs in the industry, and the nominations are coming from culinary professionals themselves.

Moorefield has been in the food industry for over 30 years.

She said her passion for food started as a little girl. Later on she went to culinary school and opened award-wining restaurants in Florida and Oregon. A decade ago, she came back to her hometown of South Boston and started Bistro 1888.

She said the key to the success of her career is just having a passion for cooking.

"I really think that that's one of the things that differentiated us from other places, is that passion, that drive, that love of food, love of life and love of being positive and trying to share that gift with the world," said Moorefield.

Bistro 1888 has also received numerous awards. The restaurant is open at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
