Woman, child stabbed in Fairview Township home

LEWISBERRY, Pa. (WHTM) -

A woman and her 2-year-old son were flown to a hospital after an apparent murder-suicide attempt at a home in Fairview Township, York County.

Township police said the boy had two slash wounds, each several inches long, on both sides of his neck and his mother, 36-year-old Candis Bradshaw, had a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest.

Police said that due to statements and evidence obtained at the scene, it appears Bradshaw inflicted the injuries to her child and herself with a kitchen knife, but the investigation is ongoing.

Both were flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center by helicopter after they were given first aid at the home in the first block of Foxfire Lane shortly after 8:30 a.m.

At this time, it appears that the child's injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Authorities did not know the status of Bradshaw's injuries.

Police said they are looking into any mental health issues that may have contributed to the incident.

They said criminal charges may follow after medical and psychological treatments are completed.
