EBay Job Fair in Martinsville Looking For Manager Positions

Posted:

Danville, VA -- Almost two dozen upper level positions were up for grabs Friday at a Martinsville job fair. EBay Enterprise is growing and they need managers and supervisors.

"Just trying to make ends meet basically, day to day living," said unemployed Benjamin Gilbert.

Gilbert hopes his 2-year streak of unemployment ends here. With a family at home, he simply can't afford to go any longer without a paycheck.

"I could actually start catching up on some of the bills and move on with my life," said Gilbert.

That's why he came to Patrick Henry Community College with forms in hand to apply for an eBay Enterprise position.

"We need to hire a good solid leadership team to kind of manage all those facilities," said Kim Smith Glisson, Director of Operations.

EBay Enterprise acts as a distribution center for eBay. When the company works with large businesses, sometimes they have centers like this to store inventory. Smith Glisson says their Martinsville fulfillment centers already provide services for 27 businesses, but soon it will be 28. That's why they need to expand their workforce and in the next few months they'll open another building.

"They are very good jobs, it's a great company to work for and we really wanted to as much as possible hire the local talent," said Smith Glisson.

Typically they have 400 employees which grows to 1600 during the holidays.

"I picked, I packed," said unemployed Tammy Feazelle.

Feazelle filled one of those seasonal jobs, now she hopes to turn it into a full-time career.

"I could then become more stable, better able to take care of my children, grandchildren," said Feazelle.

With interview after interview, they plan to carefully select their team. And all of these hopefuls want to be the next one with a job.

"I'm sure it gives the community hope as well because it should open up more jobs in the future," said Gilbert.

There will be more jobs in the near future, according to eBay Enterprise officials. They tell us they will be adding over 100 people this year with the next job fair in early March.
