Board members drop lawsuit against Susquehanna

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Two members of the Susquehanna Township School Board have dropped their lawsuit against the district, but their legal action against the superintendent will continue.

Jesse Rawls Sr. and Mark Sussman said in a statement Friday that they have instructed their attorney to immediately cease all legal action against the district and the school board.

In the statement, Rawls and Sussman said the legal proceedings were dividing the board and hampering its ability to govern.

They said they are continuing legal actions to strike down the contract of superintendent Dr. Susan Kegerise, who is now the only defendant in the lawsuit.

Rawls and Sussman claim Kegerise's contract limits board members' First Amendment right to free speech due to clauses that spell out how they can speak to the superintendent.
