NEW BLOOMFIELD, Pa. (WHTM) -

State police in Newport have charged a New Bloomfield man with criminal homicide in the death of a 3-month-old girl.

Joshua Michael Gross, 33, is accused of causing "abusive head trauma consistent with shaking" the girl, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday.

Gross, who is engaged to the girl's mother, was caring for the baby at a home in the 100 block of N. Carlisle Street when he called 911 Saturday morning to report that his daughter, Ivy Gross, had stopped breathing, the complaint states.

The infant was transported to Harrisburg Hospital and then transferred to Penn State Hershey Medical Center where doctors found several significant injuries, the complaint states.

Police said in the court documents that Gross repeatedly told them he called 911 after he prepared a bottle for the baby and noticed her lips had a blue tint, but later claimed he noticed a problem after he picked up the girl and "shook her a few times."

Gross was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child. The charge of criminal homicide was added after the child died Wednesday.

Gross is being held at Perry County Prison. His bail has been denied.
