Update: Child struck in driveway dies

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

UPDATE:

A toddler has died after he was struck in the driveway of a private residence in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County.

Police said the 2-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. Thursday at a home on the 1000 block of S. Market Street.  Police said the car was being driven by the owner of the home.

Police are continuing their investigation but said the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:

A medical helicopter transported a child to a hospital after the youngster was struck by a vehicle near Mechanicsburg this afternoon.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Shepherdstown Road and S. Market Street in Upper Allen Township at around 4 p.m.

Cumberland County 911 dispatchers said the child suffered injuries to the head and neck, but a medical condition was not immediately available.
