City of Mobile celebrates 'Jay Prosch Day'

Senior Bowl week isn't all business.

The city of Mobile honored Auburn's Jay Prosch at his former high school, UMS Wright. Mobile Mayor Sandy Simpson presented Prosch with a key to the city and proclaimed Wednesday as 'Jay Prosch Day'.

Prosch was integral in Auburn's turnaround and was identified as the physical power pulse of the Tigers run-heavy offense. Auburn reached the BCS Title Game one season after finished in the cellar of the SEC West.

"Jay, on behalf of Auburn, our coaches and myself, thank you for what you did," said Auburn coach Gus Malzahn at the assembly. "You helped us get back to where we need to be. You will always be one of my all-time favorites, and I couldn't be prouder."

Prosch helped UMS Wright to the 4A football state title in 2008.

"Jay was the most unselfish guy I've ever coached," UMS Wright coach Terry Curtis told the audience. "He was the best offensive lineman. He could have been our best defensive lineman. He could have been our fullback. He was our best linebacker."

Prosch is one of four Auburn players playing in the Senior Bowl. Defensive end Dee Ford, defensive back Chris Davis and kicker Cody Parkey will also be part of this weekend's all-star game.

The Reese's Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 3 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

    Auburn and Clemson have agreed to a two-game series beginning in 2016. Auburn will host Clemson on Sept. 3, 2016 and play at Clemson's Memorial Stadium on Sept. 9, 2017.The programs have played 49 times in the past, including three times in the last five years.
