HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Pennsylvania's 2013 bear harvest was the fifth-largest in state history, the Pennsylvania Game Commission reported today.

The official count is a total of 3,510 bears, with 58 bears weighing 500 pounds or more and nine of those bears weighing 600 pounds or more.

Three of the five highest harvests have occurred in the past three years. The all-time high of 4,350 bears was recorded in 2011, and 3,632 bears were taken in the following season for the state's third-largest harvest.

The harvest's heaviest bear, taken in Lackawanna County on Nov. 25 by Daniel J. Beavers, of Covington Township, Lackawanna County, weighed an estimated 772 pounds.
