EMIGSVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

State police have identified the man killed in a hit-and-run incident in York County as 35-year-old Abel Edward Zwiep of South Dakota.

Officials identified Zwiep through several tattoos; he had been released from the York County Prison on Sunday evening, where he was being held on a public drunkenness charge. Zwiep had no known local address.

State police are still searching for the driver. Anyone traveling the area of I-83 north on Monday morning between 12:30 a.m. and 12:40 a.m. with information about the crash is asked to contact PSP York at 717-428-1011.

Officials are also asking commercial motor vehicle carriers who may have been in the area at that time are asked to inspect their vehicles for possible damage and notify state police immediately if damage is found.

Previously reported: The body of a man was found along I-83 near the George Street exit in York County early Monday morning.  Police said they are investigating the incident as a deadly hit-and-run.

The northbound lanes of I-83 were closed near the George Street exit in Emigsville for several hours because of the incident. They reopened around 4 a.m.

The York County coroner's office said a man was seen walking along the Interstate shortly before police received a call that a passerby had discovered a body.  That discovery was made shortly after midnight.

Police spent most of the morning examining tire tracks in the snow, and it appeared they were searching for evidence with flashlights.

According to the York County coroner, the cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma. His death has been ruled accidental.
