LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Lancaster man was arrested after police linked him to numerous burglaries and thefts in the area.

A homeowner in the 1600 block of Ridgedale Drive contacted police on Monday at around 12:30 p.m. The resident said someone had made forced entry into the home through a window and taken coins.

Within a short amount of time, some of the coins were sold at a local coin shop. Investigators identified 32-year-old Shawn M. McCracken as their suspect and set up surveillance at his home in the 1900 block of Oregon Pike.

The suspect was taken into custody at 4:15 p.m.

About an hour later, a second resident of the 1600 block of Ridgedale Drive reported that their home had been entered through an unlocked window. A camera, cash and jewelry were taken.

Police interviewed McCracken and were able to link him to several other burglaries and a theft in the area. McCracken was charged with five counts of burglary and six counts of theft for the following incidents:

  • A home burglary in the 1400 block of Eden Road between Dec. 1 and Jan. 8. Copper pipes, train sets, firearms and antiques were taken.
  • A theft involving snowboarding equipment taken from a locked storage unit in the 500 block of Hedgerow Lane sometime between Jan. 13 and 17.
  • A home burglary in the 800 block of Bluegrass Road by forcing open a window sometime during the morning of Jan. 23. Jewelry was taken.
  • Another home burglary in the 100 block of Hess Boulevard, where forced entry was made by breaking a window sometime on Jan. 23 or 24. Jewelry and silverware were taken.
  • The two burglaries in the 1600 block of Ridgedale Drive, as previously reported.

McCracken was turned over to Central Booking for arraignment.
