Centra Taking Over Bedford Memorial Hospital

Posted:

Bedford, VA - Centra will be taking over Bedford Memorial Hospital and Oakwood Health and Rehabilitation Center later this year.

According to a news release, the 50-bed community hospital and 111-bed long-term care facility have been co-owned by Centra and Carilion Clinic since 2001.

Carilion says it's selling its ownership to Centra because fewer patients have been checking into smaller hospitals in recent years and it's moving away from operating long-term care facilities.

Centra's CEO says all employees will be able to keep their jobs and there won't be any changes to their pay.

E.W. Tibbs says he was born at Bedford Memorial Hospital and is raising his family in the area.

"Everybody in this community is my friend, is my family, is my neighbor. And we will ensure that the services that they receive here every time are exactly that," said Tibbs.

An 11-member community board will govern the day-to-day operations of the hospital when Centra takes over on July 1st.
