D-Day Memorial Lecture on Walt Disney in WWII

Posted:

Bedford, VA - War is certainly no laughing matter, but cartoons actually played a role in our victory in World War II.

Walt Disney in World War II was the topic of the January Lunchbox Lecture at the Bedford Welcome Center. The lecture was presented by The National D-Day Memorial.

As part of the war effort, Disney produced more films for the government than any other Hollywood studio.

These lectures allow the memorial to continue its educational mission during the winter months, when they can't hold outdoor events.

"It's all about education. We want people to know about World War II," said Nicole Johnson with The National D-Day Memorial. "We don't want people to forget about what our soldiers fought for and we want people to know what life was like in the 40s."

Next month's lunchbox lecture will also honor Black History Month. In March, they'll examine the history of female spies during World War II.
