MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A 23-year-old Carlisle woman was killed in a wrong-way crash on I-81 Tuesday night.

State police identified the victim as Aaron King.

Police said around 8:30 p.m., King was driving north in the southbound lanes of I-81 near the Route 114 exit in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County. Police said a tractor trailer driver tried to steer to the left to avoid hitting King's vehicle, and sideswiped another car carrying a 44-year-old Carlisle man, a passenger, and two small children. That vehicle went into the grass median. No one in that car was injured.

After that collision, police said the tractor trailer collided head-on with King's 1997 Oldsmobile.

King was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor trailer driver was treated for a leg injury.

Police said their investigation continues into why King was driving in the wrong direction. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police at 717-249-2121.
