Lynchburg, VA - Celebrating the completion of their renovations, Lynchburg's downtown YMCA had a grand opening to the public Saturday morning. City Council members, Regional Chamber members, and folks from the Y held a ribbon cutting to make it official.
The main new feature is a group fitness room. It has a glass wall that gives class attendees the perfect view of downtown Lynchburg. There were also some demonstrations of classes that will be offered in the new space. The YMCA says the new accommodations will help people in the community make new friends and be healthier.
"We're able to offer a lot of new classes that we didn't have room for before so this building was built in 1956, but we've worked over the years to keep it current and meeting the needs of today's world and this is just out latest, greatest renovation," said Susan Landergan who is the CEO of the YMCA.
The YMCA also has renovated all of their locker rooms, which are also now officially open to the public.
